I have the same issue with Revit 2018.2, no issue with AutoCad or other software. I have seen posts online by Autodesk that the files cannot reside and the same server as the domain controller. Why has Autodesk not addressed this issue, we are a small firm a second server is a big expense (so is the time waiting for saves to occur). What is the official solution to this issue?

I wanted to follow up on this issue. I'm waiting for further feedback from the team.
Can you share your journal file, server log file, and model if possible? I can send you a private folder if you'd like.
Meanwhile, see article on Revit | Slow Performance
Also, which windows version do you have?

Here is my journal file, and a test file I created to test saving to my HD compared to the server. there was a significant difference even with the small file
Thanks for sharing these files. Can you please send your server log file as well?
Can you let us know what are you comparing the performance to which makes you think its slow? Do you spot any other behavior (background processes etc) during the syncing?
Looking forward to your reply.

We are not using Revit server or Autodesk Vault, why would the server even have a journal file? there is no instance of Revit on the machine only the license server and the files themselves
We had a similar issue to what you are describing.
Rather than using a 2nd server we got an SSD NAS drive for a few hundred pounds which reduced the save time from 3-5 minutes to a few seconds.
Thank you, I have engaged our resellers tech people to help diagnose the issue, though we stopped when I asked what the end result was going to be. If we expends all this time and energy to find that there is no solution why don't we just buy the new server or NAS and get on with it. Autodesk does say that the Domain Controller shouldn't be on the file server but not definitively which would save some time. Thanks for the reply
In the end we installed a new server and our problem went away, I think Autodesk needs to be a bit more definitive that the file server and domain controller cannot coexist on the same server.
