Revit 2018.2 - Graphic issues

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,
I'm having some graphic bugs with Revit 2018.2

It happens on all models and all of my computers : some have Nvidia Quadro and others are on Geforce

Windows,Revit and graphic drivers are all up to date.

Turning on or off the hardware acceleration doesn't change anything.

The main bug is when I try to move the windows ( properties, project browser, etc.) as shown in my video
https://photos.app.goo.gl/cIIk6Ornpujik8Bt2

As I tried to record with screencast or even take a screenshot I noticed it is not showing on the video or the screenshots, really weird.

Not on all computers, the shadows are not rendered like they should but they appear with a lot of pixels in them ( I have no screenshot at the moment since it happened when I was giving a training ) , once again turning off hardware acceleration doesn't change anything.

Do you have any idea how to fix this problem ?

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous

You've done all the right things by updating Revit, windows, graphics card etc.

Usually disabling Hardware Acceleration within Revit clears graphics flickering issue.

A few questions to help troubleshoot:

  • Is the issue specific to a single project?
  • Do you have a multiple monitor setup? (If you have disabled the dual monitor setup, please see if this occurs on the primary machine)
  • What is the screen resolution settings? Did you change it recently?
  • Have you installed other rendering plugins recently?
  • Did you see this behavior before the upgrade to Revit 2018.2?
  • What is the graphics card version for Nvidia and Geforce? In some instances, a roll back to the previous driver versions (download from the manufacturer's website) has helped resolve issues of this nature.

Looking forward to your reply.

Regards.

  • Is the issue specific to a single project? No
  • Do you have a multiple monitor setup? (If you have disabled the dual monitor setup, please see if this occurs on the primary machine) Yes but already tried to switch to one screen only, didn't change anything
  • What is the screen resolution settings? Did you change it recently? 1920x1080, tried a lower resolution and did not make any difference
  • Have you installed other rendering plugins recently? no, only softwares installed on my training laptops are Revit and Autocad
  • Did you see this behavior before the upgrade to Revit 2018.2? no, in fact by going to 2018.2 I had clipping issues ( disappearing elements when zooming in 3D etc ) , then I updated the Nvidia drivers and everything was fine for a moment, now it's back with other bugs
  • What is the graphics card version for Nvidia and Geforce? In some instances, a roll back to the previous driver versions (download from the manufacturer's website) has helped resolve issues of this nature. Geforce 23.21.13.9077, version of 1/22/2018, already at this bug with the previous version

Is it possible to be caused by a windows update ?

Thank you

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for getting back and I appreciate the detailed responses.

Yes, we have had instances of Autodesk software not launching after installing the Windows 10 Creators Update & Defender

But we'll have to check and confirm if your issue is caused by a windows update or not.

However, I would like to see your journal files (one from Nvidia and one from Geforce)

I will post a collector utility which will extract required information to help troubleshoot.

Let me know if you do not want to post here, and I can send you a private folder to upload.

@Anonymous kinda looks like Windows 10 Fall Creator update is to blame.

Toolbars leave a trail while being dragged in AutoCAD on Windows 10 machines

Yup looks like it and I don't want to do a rollback on all of my computers across the company Smiley Mad

I'll do the test on one of them and see if it "fixed" the issue.

Thanks

Hi @IDStudiosAdmin

Sorry to hear that you are having issues.

We'll be happy to log a support case and work with you towards a resolution.

Is it possible that you share the Revit model if this is specific to a model/ user and a journal to investigate further?

Let me know and I can share a private folder link

Issues are still there, didn't try to rollback my Windows 10.

No patches / update fixed it yet.

I started asking around to those in our office who are using 2018 (not everyone in our office is on 2018 yet) and every person I talked to is also having this issue. Different models, different hardware etc. Since it's not really interrupting work flow, no one had complained about it. Then a new employee arrived yesterday and reported it. Since no one seems to have solved it and it doesn't seem to be a model issue, I don't think sending the model to @Viveka_CD will help, but thanks for asking.

I hope the lack of complaining due to it only being a nuisance and not a productivity issue does not stop Autodesk from coming up with answers.

Hi @IDStudiosAdmin

We hear youSmiley Happy

Sorry to hear that this has affected many users in your office.

Can you confirm if you have the latest update installed? (Revit 2018.3)

Sometimes these issues may be related to system configuration, server or even performance with a multiple monitor setup, but we will be able to filter and diagnose why this happens if we have your journals and other system files.

As mentioned earlier, I'd be happy to take a look if you can can send us these files.

Regards,

I just got an email saying there was an accepted solution, so I came to visit the topic and found nothing new. In the mean time, I did notice, however, that Autodesk products aren't the only one having this issue. I saw it in an Adobe product as well, which confirms it's likely a Microsoft problem. At this point everyone in my office is just ignoring it since the "trails" seem to easily go away once the toolbar is "dropped".

I am having the same issue.  It is very likely caused from a Windows 10 update.  I hadn't thought of that as a possibility before, but thinking back on when it began I believe I did have an update around that time.  I had also moved my computer to a different office that coincided with the issue, so I thought that could have been a factor.  Has there been a resolution to this issue?
