Revit 2018.0.2 - Text Prints Oversized

In Revit 2018, the text views fine in model but gets large in print preview, actual prints, and .pdf prints, running out of borders and off the page.  This includes text notes, room names, title blocks, and anything using text.  Huge issue since we cannot issue construction documents until this is resolved.  This appears to happen with all fonts but as a standard, we use Arial.

Hi @zbroyles

I tested the same version/build with the Arial font and it looks fine in the PDF.

  • Have you check for updates from your Autodesk desktop app? See HERE for information on the latest hotfix/ patch
  • What PDF printer are you using?
  • Does this happen on all the sheets or specific sheets?
  • Do you have realistic views?
  • Can you try to  upgrade the printer driver and see if there is any difference?
  • Can you try to reduce the text size by half even if it appears smaller in Revit and try the PDF print again?
  • Did you try changing the font and see if the same error occurs?
  • Clear your temp folder, and check virtual memory and try printing.

Let me know if you were able to resolve the issue or else send us a file to troubleshoot.

Let me know if you have questions sending the file.

I am having the same issue as described above, have updated all I can with Revit 2018, and still no improvements.

Below you can see how it SHOULD look vs how it ACTUALLY looks when I print to PDF.

Please advise on how to solve. Because if this is happening with the most basic (arial {default}) of fonts, I am worried how long this will hold up our project.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting on our forum!

Please check if you have the latest updates from your Autodesk desktop app? See HERE for information on the latest hotfix/ patch

  • Can you try this for me? Please export to DWF and print to PDF and see if the font prints correctly.
  • Also, are you using remote desktop to access Revit?
  • Which version of windows are you using? If it is windows 7 and if you've had a recent update from Microsoft than the Microsoft Hotfix Link can help resolve this issue.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question, this will help others seeking similar solutions. Kudos welcome!

Hi,

We're encountering the same problem.

We have applied the Windows 7 hotfix; as we are using Revit 2018 the same way - accessing it on Windows 7 hosts via Remote Desktop. The issue still occurs even with the hotfix. The issue is NOT that elements are displaying incorrectly on screen - they are displaying incorrectly in PRINTS. Revit's own print preview shows the text as mangled, while it displays correctly in a normal window. The issue is somewhere in Revit's internal print processing.

We note that this issue does not occur on Windows 10 hosts; there appears to be a serious incompatibility between Revit 2018 & Windows 7.

If it makes any difference, we are running Windows with the locale set to EN-AU and Revit set to Metric. The size the font is being expnaded looks suspiciously like 2.54 which is the usual metric/imperial conversion SNAFU.

Hi Guys

I was having the same issue with over size text. I did manage to fix it just by restarting my computer. I think the issue stems dragging the Revit file from different screen resolutions. My laptop has 4K Res and my monitors are 1080. I noticed that when typing into Cortana (on my 1080 screen) that the text size was massive as well. Try only opening Revit on your main "Work" monitor so that it doesn't have to change the resolution with the project open. Worked for me.. Hope this helps.

You shouldn't have to play with screen resolution to fix this error. It's 2017, not 1993, after all.
The way to fix it was:
On Windows 7 machines:

1. Install Windows6.1-KB2768741-x64.msu
2. Restart the machine
3. Patch to Revit 2018.1.1 or higher
Problem solved!

On Windows 10 machines:

1. Patch to Revit 2018.1.1 or higher
2. Restart the machine
Problem Solved!
The continuing issue of Autodesk not making UIs scale properly on high-res screens is still an issue; presumably they'll fix that when they fix the Materials system in Revit. 😛

Hi there
How can I just send the file just to you?

This is how my print looks. The text is all oversized. I am on windows 10.

However when I print from another machine in our office (windows 7) it prints fine.

That doesn't look good!

What graphics card do you have in your system?

Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB on iMac with Bootcamp.

It all was working fine, until Windows 10 did an automatic update and now I have this problem.
