Revit 2017 Text Editor Question - dialog box when escaping editor

I've just downloaded 2017 to test it out, and have noticed a highly annoying new feature about the text editor-

If I hit escape to exit the editor, there is a dialog box asking 'Do you want to keep your changes to the text note?' with yes, no, and cancel buttons-

I find this excessive, considering you can delete whole views and sheets from a project without a dialog box popping up to confirm.  That is not saying I think there should be a dialog box, revit already has far too many inconsequential dialog boxes that pop up and interrupt the workflow.

Also, the ability to drag annotation text with free leaders is gone, you must select the very small 'move' symbol in the upper corner and the text leader stays pinned.  Instead of double clicking text to edit, you just select it and it goes straight into the edit mode, if you hit escape because you were only trying to move text you get the dialog box.

I know revit has always had text editor issues, but this seems like a big step backwards.  I did experience the glitchy text issues that others have described such as not being able to type over highlighted text and arrows keys not working properly, but a system reboot seems to have resolved those.

Is there any way to configure it to suppress this dialog box?  This is a massive time waster and unnecessary functionality.

Our office has the same problem, would love the option to disable this dialogue box. The 'Escape' key is my go-to button, I use it between every command to make sure I'm not accidentally activating the wrong shortcuts. This dialogue box sucks up time like nothing else in Revit.

Don't use the ESC key in Revit...   It cancels the command instead of completing it.  If you are like me and go ESC crazy in Autocad that tends to make Revit crash when done the same within a project.  I tend to forget this when I switch gears to Autocad for a while and come back to Revit.

I've actually created little boxes for some folk that covers the ESC key with text saying DO NOT USE.

The dialog box only appears when you Esc or cancel the Edit Text session.  That's a good thing IMHO.  Just in case you are Esc happy and you don't want to throw away your edits.

If you simply pick off to the side of your text box, or hit the Close button in the Edit Text ribbon, your all done.  No more questions asked...one pick.

mpwuzhere, craigreed,

Whenever I draw a detail line, spline wire, tag something, etc, the command is still "open" and waiting for me to draw a new line, a new wire, place a new tag, etc. Using the Escape key, I can "close" the command so I can get my mouse back and continue on to select something else or enter another shortcut for a new command. I've never had an issue with Revit freezing from pressing/mashing Escape.

Clicking outside the text box is all well and good, but you can understand my frustration when for every other command (including Text boxes pre-R17!!!) I have been and will still continue to use Escape.

How do you quit your open commands? Right-click + 'Cancel' seems even more tedious.

I appreciate your suggestions, but I still do a lot of work in R15 and R16 which still allow me to use Escape in text boxes. I am too conditioned to use the Escape key to make a switch now. A checkbox setting doesn't seem too much to ask from such robust software.

I haven't been in 2017 since I initially test drove it about a year ago and posted this comment.  I agree with @Anonymous regarding escape functionality.  I know some people don't use their keyboards much in revit, but I am the type to have tweaked all my hot keys to my liking and rarely navigate through toolbars (not just in revit, but all software I use that supports configuring the commands to keys), so having to manually mouse to a 'cancel' button seems ridiculous.  I've never had issues with escape freezing revit, I imagine 'escape happy' people might be relentlessly pounding the button when revit takes longer than they expect to perform a command...

@Anonymous @Anonymous

I also am curious how people that don't use the escape key exit out of detail lines or walls or other commands that don't end until manually ended.  I imagine they are probably very slow in revit if they are back and forth between tool bar and working space that often.

All of that to say- Has anyone used 2017 with all the service packs to see if it is better?  2018 is out now, so hopefully that means they have ironed out the glitches in 2017 (though hah, maybe not, it wouldn't be out of character for autodesk).  I am still working mostly in 2016, but no one is going backwards, so I'd like to go ahead and get a newer release.

I agree, a simple option to disable this time-wasting dialog box would be helpful for the many people who use Esc to exit other commands.  People who are scared, or really like it, can keep the dialog activated.  This extra dialog box is infuriating!!

For what it's worth, I too would like to have an option to turn off this warning.

Still happening in R18....

No response on if anyone cares...

Pretty pricey software, too bad no one responds to these kinds of things to keep customers happy.  Or at the very least, even acknowledge them...

There are a couple of places for new feature requests. This forum is not one of them.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
