Revit 2017 Crashes After Splash Screen

Hi,

I have a couple computers where Revit 2017 will crash with an error report right after the splash screen. Revit is already up to date. I've also tried recreating the Cascade.info file and deleting the user AppData directories so that they can be recreated. This issue happens with all users on these computers, so it is not limited to just one user. The issue does not happen with other Autodesk products, such as Inventor 2017. Here is the journal file entry:

Any suggestions?

Hi @Anonymous

Please try the following options:

1)Try replacing the Revit.ini with the out of box file. C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\UserDataCache

2)If the wscommcntr2.exe process is still running when the product is relaunched it can prevent it from starting up.  This can also prevent the Installer from running if you were trying to uninstall the product.

The workaround for this issue is to kill the wscommcntr2.exe process in the Task Manager.  If you launch the Task Manager and you still see wscommcntr2.exe in the process list - even though the product is not running - select the process and choose "End Process".  This will terminate the running process and allow the product to launch again.

3) It could be the user profile is corrupt, Repair/replacing the corrupted user profile in Windows is recommended.

Please check the follwoing links:

4) There are some basic items to check:
Basic items to check:
  • Is Revit updated (in general it is better to be on the latest update of the product, and in many cases as issues are identified and resolved, applying the latest update could clear up unexpected behavior, including crashes)? since you have already checked for updates, consider the next steps.
  • If Add-ins are installed into Revit, does the crash continue with all add-ins disabled?
  • Is the issue specific to a particular project?
  • Is the issue specific to a particular user account? (e.g. create a new Administrative account and retest)
  • Is the issue specific to a particular workstation?
  • Is the issue specific to a particular workflow (this can be a bit trickier to identify, but if a user encountering the issue goes to another workstation and finds the same issue (on a system that wasn't previously seeing an issue), this could indicate there is something different in their workflow)?
  • Does the crash occur when the system is put into a simplified startup environment? How to perform a selective startup in Windows
If the crashing continues after checking the basic items above, please let me know.
