Revit 2017 - CAD siteplan rotation issue.

I have a client who has found a potential bug with Revit.

"I have imported my cad site file, rotated to 20 degrees (the correct angle) and acquired coordinates.  True north and project north are very happy.  However, if I update the cad file, then re-import, verifying all along that the view it true north, the cad site rotates another 20 degrees.

I thought that I may have acquired coordinates while in project north, so started a new file, and carefully repeated the process.  Same result.  As long as I don’t reload the cad file, all is good.  Reloading it re-rotates it."

It looks very similar to an issue I have opened a support ticket recently with Autodesk [CaseNo:12267863.]. In our case a user was rotating the view and upon reloading the link it rotated undesirably.

At first Autodesk responded with a “fix”:

****************************

I understand that in Revit 2017 some view cad are rotating. . I will be happy to help you with this issue.

In order to overcome the malfunction please try this workaround:

after publishing the file, go to Manage Links and remove the dwg

file. Reload it again.

*****************************

After replying back my comments regarding the proposed “fix” the case was escalated and now is supposedly given to the developers for future investigation.

I won’t hold my breath to get a fix on that as similar comments are on Autodesk forums for more than 10 years and nothing has been done.

 In my case I advised the user to leave the initial view unchanged (the one the cad link was inserted in) – in your situation that would be to leave it oriented to Project North, make a duplicate and change the duplicate – for you that would be change orientation to True North on the duplicated view.

That way it worked for us, maybe is going to work for you as well.

@yavork

This is an old post so I'm not sure if the case still applies...nonetheless, I did try to replicate what @Ghernandez described and it seems to work perfectly fine with no issues. It might be the workflow we use or it might as well be the Revit version (the one used by the OP is before service packs, three new updates has been issued since then (2xSP and 2017.2) so it might have been a glitch somewhere along the way and now it's gone (considering I tried using 2017.2 and it appears to be ok)

@Ghernandez

If the issue persists on your end...

I tried  to reproduce the same as what u described above using 2017.2 but it somehow appears to be working fine unless I am missing out on something or doing something differently...maybe if you manage to upload the screencast I would get a better understanding.

  1. The screencast is not coming through...Manage your screencasts >> then either get the short link and paste it here or get the </> embedded code and paste it in the screencast section, preview it the use insert to upload it in the body of your post
  2. Which version of 2017 r u using or were u using? 2017.2 or an earlier version?

Just tested in 2017.2 - issue is still here.

You can easy replicate by linking cad in one of the plan views, rotate the view with the rotate tool some random angle,(now the cad link shoud be rotated as well) reload the cad link and you should see that the link suddenly changes the rotation and is again straight. If you still cannot replicate I will put a screencast.

@yavork

no access to a PC with Revit at the moment but I will try again once I do...hopefully I can replicate what's happening on ur side! Even if not solvable, it Might come in handy if it happens in the office...as I've said it might be a workflow thing or I missed out on a step you guys did...

  1. How did you rotate view? The crop region? Or rotated PN/TN?
  2. Are your reloading in a view where PN is up? Or on a view where it has been rotated?
