Revit 2017 and Up, can't Scale & Explode .SAT files for FAMILY creation

revit 2016 downwards will allow the user to import the .SAT file, and then be able to Scale it to size, then Explode it, apply a material parameter to the geometry, and assign it to a Sub-category (one could further sculpt the form, using void tools)

revit 2017 and up:  user can import .SAT file, but NO OPTION to scale it, … NO OPTION for applying material parameter,

NO OPTION for putting geometry on SUB-CATEGORY.  (voids won't cut the geometry)

YES:,.. there is the option to use the paint tool to paint the material onto the surfaces,... but if I have 50 surfaces per object?  (assigning material parameter to geometry is much simpler)

in short: the lost ability to SCALE, EXPLODE, ASSIGN MATERIAL  parameter, ASSIGN SUB_CATEGORY, to .SAT files (that have been exploded) is not a FEATURE.

As a person who created families: a certain task that might have taken me 1hr to complete,.. may now take +/- 10 hrs, thanks to the lost ability.

please ensure they restore the function back to allow for those BASIC FUNTIONS, that actually helped in productivity/efficiency.

Bring it up in the Ideas section:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/idb-p/302

My guess is the capability went away with the new features to make Revit work with 4k screens.

I came on the subject looking for the same features, and after a while looking, i've found a solution for scaling the whole sat file.

By simply importing it as CAD file and the scaling the whole file.

However, i could'nt explode it, nor paint it.

At least it's a first thing to be able to scale it...

Hoping that could help you and the next ones who come on this topic

Here is a link to a Youtube video that includes a plug-in in the description that allows this to happen.

While the plugin does allow to convert .SAT file to native Revit geometry, and apply material parameter / assign sub-category.

it does still not allow one to SCALE the object.  (scaling of object will have to happen in other application like 3DS MAX). in short,.. only revit 2016  will allow for all the functions,. regarding SCALING, EXPLODING, ASSIGNING MATERIAL  PARAMETER, ASSIGNING SUB-CATEGORY, CUT OBJECT WITH VOIDS

I found this thread because I was trying to explode and cut a .SAT import in a family I was building. I can't.

There is an Inventor workflow... if you have Inventor.

Import .SAT into Inventor, Save, Environments -> BIM Content -> Export Building Components (Saves as RFA).

Open RFA in Revit. This can be scaled.

Partial explode, then you have Revit geometry that can be cut with voids (or perhaps be used to cut).

This was done in v2021 of Revit and Inventor.

If you have the pyRevit plugin installed, then you can use that to turn
.SAT to freeform,.... Once converted you can again assign sub-category,
material parameter, and cut form with void tools.
