Revit 2017.2 Visibility / Graphics Slow Perfomance

We have a central model that has become incredibly slow when pulling up the Visibility / Graphics window.  The project recently saw an influx of users due to a deadline.  Since that point, when trying to access Visibility / Graphics, the wait time for the window to appear jumped to +/-40 seconds and today it is as long as +/-2 minutes.

We have created a new central model, purged, got rid of unnecessary archived geometry, unloaded linked models and have been going through the process of resolving warnings all to no avail.  The file size is relatively small (+/-225 MB) compared to our other projects in our office.  And, there does not appear to be excessive warnings or line types.

The model is at the edge of being of unworkable and we have another looming deadline.

Any help would be appreciated.

have you tried the following:

- turn off worksets not needed prior to VG window opening up

- restart Revit to release RAM

- delete all data within %temp% and C:\Windows\Temp

- checked manufacturer families that are loaded into the project...there may be a corrupt family or two causing the issue

- check project parameters to see if any duplicates exist

Have you checked for duplicate line patterns as well? I've seen some models that have had upwards of 13,000 duplicate line patterns. That may be the cause of the slow VG.

We finally discovered the cause; your suggestion was close.

There was a single "DIM" lines style that was duplicated close to 100,000 times (literally) and that was grouped under the Details Items category in VG and Object Styles.  After we deleted the object styles, the central model was back to normal and performance improved significantly.

I suspect that a a single family was loaded that was carrying an exploded CAD file.
