Revit 2016 changes language from English to Chinese by itself

We are experiencing weird behavior where Revit 2016's interface changes from English to Chinese by itself. Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is there a fix?

Revit 2016 from Building Design Suite Premium on Windows 10

all of a sudden from English to Chinese:

First problem:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

After setting the correct path for the file locations in the options and checking the revit.ini for the correct language settings, and the Revit shortcut for the corret language settings, this happens (all "chinese"):

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles...

And when I delete the CHS language folder ( C:\Users\ws2\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2016 ) , it is recreated as soon as Revit is started.

He has installed Revit 2016, R2, Extensions, and Update 4....

Your suggested workaround is not to install R2 ?! come on...

If you fix the family templates path, the language changes.
If you close and open revit it goes back to english but the template path
is wrong again.

The other problem is "preparing to install" that happens now and then.

Having the same problem with Revit 2017 deployment.  Thinking of just avoiding the custom Revit.ini

Well, 2017 is basically just 2016 R2 with a few rendering and MEP enhancements.  A fix would have been nice but I can't say I am surprised its not in there.  We are giving them some time to work out bugs before deploying to the office.

I will be stunned (well used to it) again by Autodesk if this issue isnt sorted in 2017~!!

Their priority these days seems to be on rendering and licensing, not fixing bugs.  Thus the reason this is still an issue...even in 2017.

Since I last posted I have upgraded my machine to Windows 10 and activated the Chinese language option on Windows.  I checked the other day and low and behold the problem seems to have fixed itself.  Not sure what did it but my menu options show up correctly and no unwanted Chinese characters.  Go figure.

We have fixed this by deleting the 'Revit.ini' file in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2016

Hi,

Deleting or modifying will not help. The problem may seems solved for a
while but it will come back.

It hasn't come back in over a month as of right now. We also only had this happen on our RDS server not any stand alone machines yet.

We had the same issues after installing Revit 2017.  Chinese, cant find path, etc.  The ini files were the issues.  The ini files associated with the deployment were not coping correctly.

check the ini files in these locations.

C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2017

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\UserDataCache

Revit MEP 2015 Certified Professional
Revit Architecture 2015 Certified Professional
AutoCAD 2015 Certified Professional

The immediate cause of this problem is a corrupt Revit.ini file, which you should be able to address by copying a good version of this file to the following locations:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 201X\UserDataCache

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 201X

In most cases, this problem stems from the unwanted secondary installer (Configuring Revit 201X dialog), which inadvertently corrupts the Revit.ini file because the original installation media is no longer available and the repair process cannot complete successfully.  Consequently, one way to avoid this problem is to ensure that the original installation media is still available.  However, the drawback of this approach is that users need to sit through the repair process each time it pops up.

The better solution is to eliminate the unwanted secondary installer but the drawback is that this requires Revit to be uninstalled and reinstalled.  In this scenario, the key is to install the available Revit updates first and then the Revit add-ins/add-ons.

When you say..."one way to avoid this problem is to ensure that the original installation media is still available", does that include a network deployment on a share that the affected workstation has access to?

I ask because we have had workstations flop to the Chinese language & the share hosting the deployment is valid & available.

From the cases I've worked on, being able to access the original installation media (which would include the deployment image from which Revit was originally deployed) is required in order for the repair process to complete successfully.  If this is true in your configuration, the problem may stem from restricted privileges that don't allow the repair process to make the necessary changes.
