Revit 2014 Problems

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I recently downloaded Revit 2014 on my personal laptop after working on Revit at my school for a project. I had a few problems downloading but it eventually worked out fine and the application downloaded. The problem is that now when I launch Revit and start a new project the top toolbar (not sure of the real name) will be black and load extremely slowly or it loads if I run my cursor over it. (This is not a hardware problem as I have a laptop that far exceeds the requirements of Revit.) When they finally load I start my project but after switching views I find that I lose my project. I can't find the work I had just done in any of the views. I get a friend to send me his project and while looking at that it also disappeared. I restarted and this time when switching views the project was still there but I couldn't interact with the walls or families etc. that I had already placed.

What could the problem be? I have a project due soon and it's frustrating that the application seems to not be working as it did at my school.

Thank you in advance.

Could be many reasons...you can start by telling us the configuration of your computer/laptop

  1. Operating system
  2. Rams & Memory available
  3. Resolution Settings & screen size scaling (for Revit 2014 best stick to 150% scaling and 2100x ???? what is available in that range)
  4. Graphic card (you can check on autodesk if it is compatible with Revit 2014 - Link below in my signature.)
    1. Check if the driver is up to date
    2. If it is not compatible with Revit; go to Application Menu (R icon top left)> Options > Graphics > uncheck "Use hardware acceleration"

PS: next time you want to download Revit 2014. use Autodesk virtual Agent (link below)

I would say it is a hardware as well as Operating system compatibility issue... If your computer is top notch it doesn't always warrant that the software will run seamlessly. Example:

  1. Revit 2014 was not designed for windows 10 (The supported OS for 2014 are Windos 7 & 8)
  2. Although the graphic card you have is more than the minimum required from Revit 2014 or any other version, it may still cause graphics issues if it ot it's driver are not compatible with Revit
  3. Resolution Settings & screen size scaling (for Revit 2014 best is set 150% scaling and 2100x ???? what is available in that range - Windows control panel)
  4. You can try to uncheck the Use Graphics accelleration option and see if it makes any difference... Go to Application Menu (the R icon) >> Options >> Graphics
  5. Try to clear/clean Temp folder (type %TEMP% in the Windows Start Menu - RUN/Search and delete everything in that folder - skip any files in use)

You can also upgrade to Revit 2017 🙂 which shouldn't have issues with the computer configuration you have

I changed the scaling to 150% and it seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you for your help.
