Revit 2014 file won't open error message

Windows 7. Upon opening file in Revit 2014 getting the error message "failed to open document".  PAlso getting the same message on the recovery file.  The data size shows but there is no preview on the thumbnnail of the file.

Yes, there is a backup file but it won't open either.
