Has anyone else had this problem or know how it may be fixed?
Every time I used the 'pick line' tool, whether I am; drawing a wall, detail line or editing the profile of a floor, Revit instantly crashes giving me the message: 'An unrecoverable error has occurred. The program will now be terminated.'
I have made sure that the work plane is parallel to the view, I have tried working in duplicate views, I have tried new views and also deleting problematic views all together. I have also tried purging the model - this didn't help either.
I don't know if it is due to a recent upgrade to Revit 2018 or whether it is just the file which is broken. It still allows me to do everything else (to my knowledge) however the pick line tool is one that I use on a regular bases and it would be really frustrating if I couldn't use it any more!
If anyone has had this problem before or some similar and has some ideas as to how to fix it, I would really appreciate it!

try the following:
- update Revit to the latest build
- try looking at the revit file on another workstation to see if the error occurs there too
- send me the revit file so i can test it on my revit 2018....my pick line tool is working fine.

As mentioned above, sounds like you are missing the "hot fix" update issued shortly after 2018 was released which address pick lines issue.
see this post...
Hi Dzan,
Sorry to jump in this conversation but I couldn't find any other discussion regarding the pick line tool.
We don't have the program crashing (the patch has been installed) but Revit 2018 is behaving weird/different.
You're saying your pick line tool is working fine.
Are you able to pick wall framing lines?
In earlier versions we were able to pick them but in this version, when tabbing through the selection options, Revit highlights only wall faces or centre lines.
Do you know if this is a new thing or a bug or something else?
It would be a shame if we couldn't pick framing lines anymore.
Btw we tried different projects on different workstations with the same result.
Cheers, Alex
Nice...I tested this issue and you are correct. I cannot use the Pick Line tool within the Draw Panel to select the Wall Framing Lines...it will pick all other lines using the Tab key just fine. I have created a Screencast below to document what is happening. I have created an Autodesk Tech Support Case (#13034408) for this to let them know and have them investigate. Will keep you posted.

Update:
Development team knows of the issue. They said it is a flaw in the software and they are working to correct it. Hopefully, it will be out in the next patch.

Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, hope they'll fix it soon as we're using it a lot.
