Revit '17 materials Crashing

Good afternoon,

I'm running a trial version of Revit 2017 hoping to show a conceptual work flow to prompt license purchases. The last major blocking action is the fact that whenever I click "Materials" in family, materials in the arc. project tab under manage, materials viewer, additional settings, essentially anything that would alter a material the program crashes.

"Autodesk Revit has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I tried all the old "solutions". Hardware accel on and off, newest version, graphics driver update, everything is fine. I monitored my ram and I have a good 50 gb left and constant usage throughout the crash. I can associate images, but if I click on materials and finishes the program crashes.

Xeon e5-2650 v3
Quadro k620 (Titan incoming)
64gb ram

Thank you for your time and your help!

Coworker is installing revit '17 as well. Mat lib installed on that computer. I may be able to get it through usb. Solution unproven as of now. How should the install go in the future?

Copying the material folder did not work.

I also took the desktop app, backburner, and all the other files from the other computer. The program works on the other computer, but not mine.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear about the issue. I would recommend trying a reinstall with your antivirus off from the virtual agent, also make sure that you have the latest service pack (2) installed.

Are you bringing your projects/templates from another version of Revit? You tried moving your add-ins folder?

It's a fresh install. I installed the latest service pack and the antivirus/firewall was off for the install. Didn't connect to your servers. Is there any other way I can get the library?

Hi @Anonymous,

Are you the administrator on the computer? Did you receive an error message of not being able to connect to servers? You downloaded all parts prior to installing from there correct?

I am the admin, the program also has full rights. I do not receive an error message it just sits at connecting... during the material library install. I took the mat lib files from another working version and pasted them in where they needed to go but it didn't work. The software just crashes whenever I attempt to use a feature dealing with materials. For me this is a lost cause, I just need a real way of installing the software. All of it. I've also used different xml related solutions and links, nothing has worked.

I believe I have all the parts. At this point I practically have more folders, zips, exes, and such in attempts to download the software than the actual software folders...

Hi @Anonymous,

Have you tried going into your programs and features in your control panel after the fact and installing the libraries, which show there by using the uninstall/change feature? See here for more detail. I wouldn't suggest copying them from another computer with the libraries, as there are some hidden folders and you actually have to install them.

check if the library is installed.

  1. The default location of the files should be: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Product (Revit 2017), unless a different location is specified during installation.
  2. If the files are not there, search your entire drive, not just Program Files, for your content files.
  3. Check whether "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" is selected. By default "program data is hidden."
Click Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab.
  4. If the option is not selected, then select it and go back to the C:/ProgramData folder to see if the folder contains the files.

  If the libraries are installed:

  1.  Create a new path from Revit to this folder location:
    1. Click the Big R upper left corner > Options > File locations.
    2. Click Places > the Plus sign.
    3. Find the path.
  2. Change the default path.
    1. Click the Big R upper left corner > Options > File locations.
    2. Click Browse under the “Default path for family template files.”
    3. Find the path.
