Hey guys! Hope you are great.
I am fairly new to Revit and I am running it through a VM with Parallels 12 and Windows 10, but its incredibly slow compared to my old regular PC.
My setup is the following:
iMac Retina 5k
Inter Core i5 3.2ghz Processor
8GB RAM (Working on some extra RAM soon)
AMD Radeon 2048mb Card.
Parallels is set up the following way:
CPU & Memory:
2 Processots
Memory: 4096 Mb
Graphics:
1024 Mb dedicated to VM
Any tips or ideas on why is it running to slow? I've been in different forums and tried different combinations of setting but Revit is still slow and clunky.
Help!
Thanks in advance!
Jon
Hi @Anonymous
the minimum requirements for a Mac setup are defined/recommended on THIS LINK HERE (Autodesk's Knowledgebase Network) ...and your current configuration is slightly less than the recommendation
Having used Revit on Mac over the past 3 years (my personal/home machine); You need to also know that The specs recommended on the AUTODESK link given above are the lowest minimum. If you want to really enjoy working with it you MUST double what is recommended on that site (if using parallels)
As for parallels vs bootcamp...I use bootcamp. Far more efficient when it comes to performance (some claim Bootcamp is no good deu to drivers issues but I can confirm that it runs flawlessly if/when properly set up)
hope the above helps

Based upon previous results: I guess that's why Kellogg's creates a Variety Pack! (smile) Seriously, I have been using Parallels on my Mac Mini and MacBook Pro with Windows 7. The workflow and throughput is quite efficient and without flaw. I would recommend upgrading your RAM to 16 GB and allocate at least 12 GB to the Parallels configuration. In this mode, you won't be disappointed, and find there is a marked increase in performance. I have worked on files as large as 200 Mb, with Point Cloud files attached, with no decrease in performance. Hope this helps.
@Anonymous I didn't say parallels is bad (smile) it is actually more practical than bootcamp but the latter is a personal preference. I am not fond of VM and sharing hardware resources... Going just by the recomended setup on Autodesk's website to say I meet the specs but not getting the anticipated performance is where I would say with those specs one is better off with bootcamp; upping the Rams is definitely a must...you say 12Gb I would say what the heck pay a bit more and have a minimum of 16Gb dedicated for Parallels and it won't be a waste "the more the merrier"
i'm not sure who put the recommendation for the Mac + Parallels but if compared to those they specified for a performance PC one can easily see they r not promoting Mac (smile)
