RETROFIT - Best Practices

Fellow Revit users,

My company is working to retrofit some historical buildings, and we received this buildings modeled from a another company. The overall modeling it's OK, but I'm concerned with some issues. For the record, my companie does not do BIM. We just use Revit for modeling and document coordination. And we have many Revit skill levels around here. That said, the issues:

1 - Location and site:

Was not included in the modeling contract, so the company that provides us the models did something regarding it, but the actual topography is another firm responsability, which I'll force us to coordinate all the info and put model and topography to talk to each other.

2 - Linking and manipulating:

The other company used their own template file to start the modeling. I'm not sure if they might done in my company's template, and even less sure if I might leave it the way it is or move the model to our template.

The model we received isn't divided the way we will do it, regarding documantation, building phases, etc. How bad it is for me to do it?

The model we received isn't ready for worksharing, so obviously we do not have worksets to help manipulating the model. Again, how bad it is for me to do it?

I know that all this issues could have been avoided with a meeting for modeling criteria and a well discussed contratc, but unfortunately my employers do not bother understanding BIM and only want the job done. Brazilian way.

Thank you all in advance.
