Residential Roof Connection

Residential Roof Connection

I am working on an addition to a house and I am trying to connect the new roof to the existing one. I cannot figure out how to design the roof properly so the two can be connected. Ideally the new roof would be a hip roof to match the current style. In the screenshot, the new roof has the shingles on it.

What about just joining them together?

in my opinion , this is the correct connection of the two roofs...

In roof design you are not allowed to have horizontal valleys...

I do not know how you were able to connect these. I have tried to join them and I cannot do so. Can you upload your file?

I don't believe he connected the Roofs.  I think he demolished and replaced the Existing Roof with the Rood that he is showing in his screenshot.

Is it normal practice to connect the existing and new roof like that in Revit to send to the contractor? I am trying to make sure I am completing this correctly.

thank you all so much for the help! I am a graduate Architecture student assisting with a home project and I do not have a lot of experience with residential roofs.

In practice on site, the constructor use to make a partial demolition  in the junction area of the existing roof with the future roof ( slightly wider that the final junction area)

Usually it will uncover the roof structure (to let only the rafters)

New rafters will be placed so to connect with the existing ones (they will make some trimming on the existing wood structure) and then rebuild the roof .

Finally rebuild the non structural outer layers of the roof so to join with existing ones.

In many cases I had, this was an opportunity to make a structure revision of the existing roof and , also, sometimes , to change the entire surface of exterior finish layers.

@Anonymous:  Google "California Framed Roof". This is likely how it will be constructed, unless you plan it differently.  But, more importantly, research jurisdictional building codes. In my neck of the woods, their are slight differences in how overbuilds are framed between county lines.
