Reset Project Coordinates Permanently

Hello,

I'm working on a building that has been built in separate files.  The building shell was built first in a file.  The interior walls of the building were built in a separate file with the building shell linked in.  

The issue is the building shell was built with true north pointing in a direction other than up.  The building shell was then rotated in the new file and the interior walls are drawn according to true north as up.  When you link the files into a new file, I have this situation (picture below). I have been working with the project coordinate command, but how do you permanently set the coordinates so the shell and interior files come in at the right direction and in the same spot?

This is helpful, but I think this is for an older version of Revit. I'm in Revit 2021 and I don't have the same options to select.  Also, how to you permanently set the true north? I have reset the True north so it is in the right direction, but it does not stay that way when linked into another file.

there are probably other ways to fix it, but this is what i would do... 

1. Detach the link
2. turn on your Survey Point and Project Base Point (PBP)
3. move the Project Base Point to a Grid Intersection
   • Center the PBP on the intersection.
4. open the file to be linked in
5. grab all the entities in the model and rotate them to the correct orientation
   • make sure you have all your categories on in the VG
6. do steps 2 & 3
7. reopen the first file and re-link the file in
   • using Project Base Point to Project Base Point

It doesn't sound like Shared Coordinates are involved in this equation. It sounds like it's an orientation problem. One model was drawn at an angle and the other is at a different angle. Since it sounds like the shell model was drawn rotated with regard to True North and you want to use a Project North you can use the Rotate Project North tool. That's essentially grabbing all the building model elements and related annotation and manually rotating the model.

The tool is a little tricky given the options it offers for defining rotation. Try doing it on a mockup file first to see how each option behaves and then once you're confident you can rotate the real model correctly...go for it.

Once that file is rotated you'll still have to adjust/rotate it as the link in the interior model. Once that's done it shouldn't need to or change afterward.
