repeating select & export a smaller region as sat file

Apologies - I'm receiving a sat file in Inventor from Revit & I'm not aware of all Revit's functions.

I need to chop the sat file down to the area of interest which takes a while (6000 parts to 2000 parts).

Is there a 'smart' way to export just the area (Volume) of interest out of Revit as a sat file?

Something like 'Save intersection as' - or is the process of picking the parts laborious in Revit too?

Thanks

Andrew

Go to a 3D view and tick Section box, then stretch the box to cover only the area of interest.  Then export to SAT.

Thanks ToanDN.

Is there a precise way to make the selection?

I'm thinking of defining the volume in Inventor, the part dropped into Revit, the selection being all parts in contact with the Inventor part.

Using a select by box could be a bit random. the building is changing so I'd like to repeat the selection & grab the same geometry each time.

Andrew

Hi @andrew_canfield

Can you share the file to troubleshoot further?

I can send you a private folder if you'd like.

Hello Viveka.

I'm sorry, I can't share the file but the Revit .sat file out put is 180MB

I can open this in Inventor after 10-20 minutes & then delete parts I don't need (importing as an assembly).

Deleting parts can take 15-25 minutes. Then repeat for different areas of the model.

The model is a building in which machinery is placed, holes are cut in walls for access, the machinery is moved, more holes are cut, the building is reinforced, the machinery moves, the reinforcing is removed, repeat. The building is being demolished, the model is continually changing.

I'd like Revit to export just sections of the Model but I don't use Revit, it's in the hands of a supplier, it's difficult for me describe the Revit process to do this - I think a previous post mentioned groups can be set up?

I think there is a selection cube which is dragged manually, this is ideal but I'd like exactly the same co-ordinates to be selected week in week out as the model changes.

Can the size & position of the selection cube be set?

If I open the original Revit model in Revit what would the next steps be to output smaller selections as sat files?

I might be able to get the model & a Revit seat, just need to figure out how to use Revit!

Many Thanks

Andrew

Hi @andrew_canfield

You can use the section box in Revit to define the part of the 3D view to export. See HERE for more information.

For information about section boxes, see Change the Extents of a 3D View.

Click HERE to create and edit Section Views in Inventor.

See the AU class HERE for Inventor to Revit: Building Product Manufacturing Workflow

Hi Viveka

I'm still researching & found this selection tip for height, using 'View Range' - now I need some thing similar for depth & width..guess that's just sectioning?
