Rendering tiles is far from easy

We've been trying to render a kitchen where the wall should have tiles in running bond. I've red here on the forum about scaling, bumps and relief patterns. While experimenting with these parameters the only effect I get is a white plain glossy wall. The most "running bond"-ish I get is like the attached pic.
Help would be much appreciated

@Anonymous: I noticed also that you really got your Relief Pattern jacked up. It's at its max. Any reason for that? Try a fraction of that amount.

Thank you very much!

The relief together with the texture editor seemed to do the job. And for anyone who stumbles upon this thread in search for a tiles in running bond trouble, well this is how I set up my settings:

Any ideas how to create a running bond subway tile with 4 different brick colors mixed into it?

Maybe if swap the image under materials out to an image that looks like what you're talking about...a tile/brick pattern with different colors in it?
