Hello Dr RD
I wonder if you can help me. I am a student just starting out with autocad, and alos have access to Revit via student Autodesk.
One of my projects is to design a 4 bedroom villa with swimming pool and want to present a very lifelike 3d render. Can I do this in Autocad to a good enough standard (so it looks kind of real) or am I best to start from scratch and learn and do the entire thing in Revit?
Or any other suggestions 3D Max etc.
Appreciate your advice

You will at one point or the other used both. However, if choosing is a must, start with Revit and use it as the primary platform/software. (but do not toss Autocad off the menu of to learn software)
For rendering, Revit CAN do very good renderings if you master it. However, 3D Max is better at it. Personally I do not use 3D Max anymore. I prefer to use Lumion and V-Ray (sometimes Enscape) and I would recommend you go for 1 of these instead of 3D Max. All 3 offer an educational / student license
Edit: I have just noticed and am not sure why you have mentioned/addressed me in particular lol
there are lots of legends on this forum whom you could benefit from their experience if you are sticking with Revit @barthbradley @ToanDN @syman2000 @Alfredo_Medina @constantin.stroescu ...and many others and they are for sure better than me when it comes to Revit Rendering @aRcHiTeCt.JM is a 9 Dan GRAND MASTER in Revit renderings! you can check a sample of his renderings HERE>>> Solved: Re: Revit or Autodesk for Interior Designers - Autodesk Community - Revit Products
