Rendering quality

Hello All,

I have a few questions on renderings - need some input....

I have created a few renderings, and it seem as though they are a tad grainy.  So what I do is save it out to a jpeg file and then somewhat enhance it using windows live photo gallery.  I know that it is simplistic way, but I would like to make the renderings more photo quality.  Most at the office are ok with how it is done, but I am a person who strives to make it better....

What do most of you use or how do you create better renderings?  What add-ins or other software do you use?

I have been online /blogs and have many ways of doing it, so I would like to know how others, on this blog, accomplish this - I usually get the best results here. Smiley Happy

I have attached one of my renderings for review  - I just don't like the plantings...

Thanks in advance

I think a good start. To improve upon it I would experiment with a few things.

The picture seems very bright with only a few shadows. I would look at setting a different sun setting (other time/other season) to compensate for this.

I also would remove the 'white' tree and replace it with something else because it starts to dominate the picture.

Further I would try to do something with the area in front of the building. It seems very flat and the grass too fake.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

From what I see there , in my opinion, some points where you can improve your renderings:

  • Use Adjust Exposure to make the image darker especially for the trees. I use a Exposure Value > Darker around 14 . Play ,also , with Midtones (darker obtains a more contrast in the image) . Try the other Adjust Exposure settings till obtaining an acceptable result
  • The windows appear as black holes. They have no reflectance. In order to improve this, select the material of the window pane,  Glass or Glazing, and from Material Appearance increase Refelctance ( I use something around 50) and use 2 or even 3 Sheets of Glass. Now the windows will reflect more ore less the envinronment.

If you want a much better result of the rendering , then export to 3DS max ( using FBX or directly for newer versions) . Im MAX you can use better vegetation , as , for instance LaubWerk application ( has also some free examples). The bottom rendering use a Revit file imported into MAX with LaubWerk trees and a procedural grass....
