Render RPC Trees as Shapes not Realisitc

Working on a massing scene and want trees, but not realistic trees that the oob RPC trees render as.

The shapes of the RPCs as modeled would be fine, but I have no idea how to turn off the image so you only see the mass and not the image in raytrace.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

-thanks

It sounds like you don't want RPC, but rather Entourage. You can open your RPC family and toggle the "Render Appearance Source" (under "Family Catagory and Parameters") from "Third Party" to "Family Geometry" to work with your own geometry, rather than RPC content. Is this what you mean?

Thanks for the reply.

When I select "Family Geometry" everything disappears.

It just seems that the mass is there I just need a way to turn off the picture that renders in its place.

there is no mass though. If you don't want the RPC, then create your own geometry to replace it.

Sorry, when I said "mass" I was referring to the 2 intersecting planes that are in the family that you see when you are not in a rendered view...that is all I'm looking for.

Just thought there would be an easy way to replace the image with the planes when you are doing conceptual massing work.

Add simple shapes to the tree base family and turn them on only for Coarse.  Turn the RPC element to show only for Medium and Fine.

...could even add elements as a nested shared family of another category for even greater VG control.

If I had time to do this for each tree type that would be a good work around option.

Looks like I'm just not going to render.

You only need to do it once for each tree family, not type.  See the file I attached.
