Hi I'm trying to render a large image for a site board in a non camera 3D view. I've overridden the visibility of nearly everything in the model to just the main model (not links) and only walls, roofs, floors and windows etc.
The renders worked on smaller sizes/ dpi. Sometimes I get an unknown error message depending on my balance of image size and dpi. Below are the failed result and last week's smaller sized success.
Thank you in advance.
Thank you in advance.
Hi @Anonymous
I see that you are visiting as a new member! Welcome to the Autodesk community!
If reducing the DPI to 150 and using a Region to reduce the size of the rendering area works fine then it might be a memory issue for large resolution renders. If you are unable to render, empty or duplicate the temp folder. Revit uses the temp directory to store files when rendering.
The tmp and Temp directories are used to store temporary information. The locations of these directories are specified in the environment variables. All of the files in these directories can be deleted. However, if you try to do this while applications are running, you will not be able to delete some files because they are in use and locked.
You may be able to delete enough folders and files within the tmp directory to allow you to render. If you have emptied your tmp directory and you still cannot render, you can temporarily change the location of the tmp directory.
Follow these steps:
You should now be able to render.
Note: It is strongly recommended that you do not create a new tmp directory every time the old one becomes full.
Let me know if this works or we can check for other solutions. Provide/attach a screenshot of the error message and which version on Revit are you using? Is is recommended that you update service packs and install hotfixes.

Hi Viveka_CD,
I think it is a memory issue as I've started to work around by only rendering about a quarter of the image at a time. I've cleared the temp files and we do seem to be moving along in chunks now.
Is there any way to increase the amount of memory revit can access as I'm able to work on other programs while its rendering and this is an old but powerful machine? There are no error messages just the black image appearing very quickly, currently using Revit 2016.
Thanks for your help so far, I'd love if you had ideas about improving performance? Otherwise, very useful and much appreciated.
Regards
Eoin
Hi @Anonymous
Glad to hear that you've cleared up temp files and got the project rolling at a steady pace!![]()
