Reloading a Revit Link with an Updated Elevation for the Basepoint

It seems that when you change the elevation of a linked file from the basepoint and then go to reload that linked file nothing happens. It stays in the same place. The only way to get the change to come through is to remove the link and relink. This can be a major time loss if you have already setup many views and overides.

Thanks,

I just noticed that it does eventually update. I had to close and open the file multiple times? Maybe this is a glitch?

Unless shared coordinates are being used, I wouldn’t expect the position of the linked file to move as outside of shared coordinates Revit doesn’t maintain control of the linked files position (you pick where it will be initially placed, but can change it at any time afterwards).

If using shared coordinates, then modifying the Survey Point of the linked file could change its relative location within the model, but you would need to be careful about making changes to the shared coordinate system after you have coordinated everything.

Were you using shared coordinates for the linked Revit file?

Yes. I am using shared coordinates. The elevation does eventual come through and move the building in elevation correctly but it doesn't seem to do it immediatly on the link reload. I'm not sure what makes it eventually work and in some situations I have to remove and re-link the model.

It (the move) might be something that only occurs when first loading the project (i.e. reloading doesn’t make the change but closing and re-opening does).

If you are making a change to the Project Base Point, then this wouldn’t affect the shared coordinates (i.e. the position of the Survey Point would remain the same) although it could change the relative location of the project geometry.

If you can get some reproducible results, a video would help to better understand what is going on.

I would recommend this Autodesk university session on shared parameters for anyone trying to get their head around it. I posted a link in a blog a few months ago....  http://revitlink.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/understanding-coordinate-systems-in.html

This session by David Baldacchino is very informative.
