Refresh family without resetting all instance parameters?

I have a family with an instance parameter, it is all over the project and the instance has many different values.

How can I update the family without resetting all these instance parameters? I'm just updating the materials, not playing with parameters.

Does loading it without overriding parameters not work for you?

The first family, it reset when I changed the family type from Furniture to Casework.

For the other, it was a detail family where the draft fill region changed.

I think there are two separate problems:

1-When you change the category of a family, it will reset all parameters no matter what since changing category is so drastic.

2-The use of the other family probably pressed the wrong button. The problem did not arise when I did it properlly
