Reference Sheet Only

I want to add a link within an architectural note to reference the door schedule sheet. Is it possible to add a view reference to reference only the sheet number Not a view and sheet number?

Yes. View reference is just a family. Create a new View reference type that use a family with just the Sheet number label.

Why not just create a TYPE that has the Detail Number and Slash Mark tuned off (e.g. not Visible)? 

...associate the Label's Visibility Parameter to a Parameter under the Family Types dialog box.  Create a Type that has that Visibility Parameter UNCHECKED.

Thanks, I duplicated the view reference family and save as a sheet reference, but when I put it into the project Revit still wants a target view, but it won't allow me to target a sheet just a view. Am I doing something wrong? see attached image.

Because it is a VIEW reference. You still need to pick a view, just that it won't show the view number, only sheet number.

I don't suppose there is a Sheet Reference, otherwise you would've mentioned it right?

I have a construction schedule with notes referencing details and sheets is there a way to get the view reference to work within a schedule?

I'm not following. How would the view reference would  "work"  in the schedule?

Place a drafting view with just ref plane some where on the same sheet where you placed the schedule.  Use that view for reference.

Thanks thats a good idea, I went with pointing at a note that would have to be on the door schedule no matter what, but your idea makes more sense.

I have constructions notes call out to sheets or details and sheets. And I like them to update if they switch pages. See attached image.
