Reference Line Grip for Rotating Element

I'm tring to get a grip to control the length of a model line that rotates. I am able to get the grip to appear and control the line but only if I have it measure from another referene line that is set to weak reference atleast. This causes another grip to appear that I do not want. Is there a way to do this without getting the extra grip?

Like this?

Host elements to Ref. Line Work Plane.

It looks like the family you posted still has the same issue. The reference line at the insertion point still have grips.

@crapai

If you want a single grip, you will need to dimension to reference planes ... dimensioning to Reference lines will give you either 2 grips or NONE.

See gif below...generating a single grip by dimensioning to a reference plane. Grip will not be at the end of the model line but will function like a slider

I figured that this would be the only option. Thank you.

I marked as solved, but for the record the answer is, you can not.

a labeled dmension between a model-line and a reference-line will also give you 2 grips. If the visibility of the modelline is unchecked, you end up with just 1 grip. The modelline is too weak to act as an anker to move the reference-line, so this is for "cosmetic"purposes only.

Starting with the family you posted:

  • make the reference-line at the pivot point [ Not a Reference ]
  • set workplane to the rotating reference-line
  • draw modelline perpendicular to the rotating reference-line, near the pivot point
  • uncheck the [ Visibility ] parameter of the modelline
  • add a dimension between the modelline and the reference-line at the end of the rotating reference-line.
  • label the dimension with the [ Length ] parameter.
