I had a project file that was about 53MB. While I was saving the file, Revit crashed and corrupted the file. After recovering the backup file and saving it as a new project file, it has reduced the file size to about 36MB. Does anyone know why this is? I am cautious that information may have been lost while recovering.
Revit keeps increasing file size after each save, I guess for journal purposes. If you save a file enough times, it can build up to several MB. Once you "Save As", it "resets". I don't know exactly how it works, but maybe that's the case.
Hello,
It is just normal file size reducement . I think you don`t need to worry a lot. But please check it again if there is everything on your file without thinking about file size. The others found this issue like you. I attached the link so that you could watch it.

A Revit project file is a database. And this is common practice with databases. For example when you delete something it is not immediately deleted. It is just marked "deleted" in the database. Depending on the database software the actually deleting (compacting) is done in a controlled way. This can be time based or can be triggered by a user. The reason is that it allows for fast undo's. Further actually deleting things from a database is an computer intensive process and therefore slow (basically rebuilding database tables). You can trigger this when you do a "Save As", then under options you have a check box "Compact File".
With large databases these processes are often done during the night when it is relative quiet.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
