Rainwater chains

Hello.

I'm using Revit light 2018.3.

I need to show rainwater chains, rather that downpipes, from a house gutter system, and I can't find any downloadable models or families for this.

Does anyone know how I could find one, or create the family for this?

I would model it as a Line-Based Array. It wouldn't be that difficult to do. Model a single chain link in a Family, and nest that Family into a Line-Based Family and then Array it. If you want to create the single chain link Family and post it, I show you how to use it in the parametric Array part.

...Check out the Family placed in the attached rvt. That's fundamentally how you build it.

Many thanks Barthbradley - the chain being modelled as a generic family model? I can have a go at that.

Sadly, I can't open your model because according to my Revit light, the file was saved in a version of Revit prior to 8.1. Thank you for trying to demonstrate.

I will have a go with the model today and will let you know how it goes.

So I think I've made a suitable chain and attached the files here... I've gone for a basic one to get the principles...

Working on an interlinked principle, I've created a linked family, but also have a single chain if this is easier for demonstration purposes.

I hope they are openable - Revit light 18.3 Family files.

Regards

Karen

Here you go @KarenLBR.

Enjoy!

NOTE: The Rainwater Chain is placed on a NAMED Workplane in the Project. That Workplane is drawn in Plan View, located at the center of the Gutter opening.  When you  place a Rainwater Chain instance, place in Elevation View with the Named Workplane set as the Current Workplane. Notice that when placing the Rainwater Chain Family  you have 2 Placement Options on the Contextual Tab: "Place on Face" and "Place on Workplane".  I have shown "Place on Workplane" method.

Also important to note, is the condition of two parameters in the Line-Based Family. "Work Plan-Based" is CHECKED and "Always Vertical" is UNCHECKED.  This makes  it possible to "Place on Face" or "Place on Workplane" in the Project.

Marvelous!

Thank you both @ToanDN and @barthbradley . Two great chains that I can use... I will have a play with these and try to learn how to create my own too.

Much appreciated.
