Railing with embedded generic models on connections

Hello,

is it possible to create railing (for safety purpose on roof or on stairs) consisting of elements like on picture below?

I have all the elements from manufacturer our company is using, but the family I created is very limited (L-Shaped generic family face based with parameters of height length and so on). I'd like it to work like standard revit out of the box railing, but in certain places insert the connecting elements :Gesicht_mit_Zunge: (Pictures below)

Simple answer is yes! However the way i would do it there are possibly other ways, would be to create each one as a post with the fittings withing it (you could add a parameter to adjust the height of the fixings if required)  then you just need a generic railing between them. Hope this makes sense!

Thanks for quick reply :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

I think I get it, and for stairs (different type of connecting elements) simply different families of the posts? :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Yeah exactly! You would make a duplicate railing type with the new posts. Might start to get quite complicated at this point as the angle of your connections would have to match the incline of the stair should work tho with a bit of thought! :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Using pipes and pipe fittings is a possibility.

Hey,

found them on some Czech site (example below)

as a solid acad model (simply loaded to family and voila :zwinkerndes_Gesicht: )

Aren't you just drawing and making a pretty picture then , and not modelling something that can be used to BIM later on or even for simple schedules?

Just saw that this is a topic from a while ago. It was just a reaction to modelling the railings as piping and pipe fittings. Then you would have to take extra measures to use schedules etc. And dont know if the ifc exports would be correct as wel.

So thats what i mean with just making a drawing , and not creating a BIM model.

Pipes and pipe fittings are schedule able.  In fact, these type of railing are assembled from pipes and fittings in real life.

@Anonymous  that depends on one's understanding/definition of BIM. In terms of Building Information, the railing tool doesn't offer more information than a pipes+fittings, a generic model and/or curtain wall modeled as rail would offer...

I have used pipes and fittings in so many situations and they are as good and sometimes better than that railing tool
