In the Properties Palette the list of "most recently used types" never appears to change. I have been using Revit for over 5 years now and it has remained this way for every project and every software upgrade I have worked in from Architecture 2010 to 2015. I have yet to see it list any families that I have inserted. Is there a setting I can adjust for this? It would be a very handly tool if I could get it to work.
Hello spinckney,
Have you repaired and/or reinstalled the program during all that time you didn't see any update in the list? Can you still choose elements from that frozen list?
Best regards,
Unfortunately no, I have had several upgarades and changed my computer at one point. I can select the items from the list but they are not what I am using. I mostly use furniture-based families so I am wondering if somehow the workset is getting filtered out.
I recently noticed that by clearing the %TEMP% folder the list of Most Recently Used Types is cleared, but further research may be needed to understand if this-the list not adding all families that are used- is normal or can be changed.
Is there a dedicated folder for this or are you suggesting the computer's general temp files?
Thank you for your post. From your description it looks like you are seeing the most recent families tree, not updating past the last 5 or never changes at all. Do I understand this correctly?
Have you had a chance to test emptying the cache folder as recommended by “t_mokha” (my colleague)? I reached out to him today and asked about his test, and he indicated it may help in this inquiry. Have you tested this yet?
I have done some testing in 2014/2015/2016 and for me to best help answer this inquiry; do you have a sample file with this behavior that can be reproduced routinely? In addition to this file, are you running any of the third party furniture tools or add-ons for the Revit software? If so which ones please?
Please keep us posted in the community so we can best help any way possible moving forward. Thank you and we look forward to your reply.

Correct. It appears to change very little and I have not seen any furniture families on the list. It has been this way since I first started working in Revit on version 2010 - at two different companies on 3 different computers, actually 4 since I used the home license when that was an option.
I'm not sure which cache you a referring to or where to find it on my computer...I would like to try this if you can tell me more.
I have no 3rd party add-ons in my computer. Currently I am going back and forth between 2014 and 2015 depending on which projects I am working.
Thank you for your reply. In this case I have included the steps below (depending on Operating System). Please let me know how this worked out. Thank you and we look forward.

Hi There - the most recent types issue is still here (Revit LT 2021.1 on W10 desktop) and clearing the %temp% directory makes no difference. Is this something that Autodesk are going to fix sometime soon as it appears to have been an issue for some while now
I'm seeing the same issue. It looks like this is related to an issue with the file, and not with the local install, because:
- all files created using our template have their recently used types list stuck
- this happens on all versions of revit (2019,2020,2021)
- but if we create a file using the default autodesk template, or open a file from another office, the type list is not stuck
I will submit a bug report.
I am also having this issue. I've had it forever. Mine is just the components, not doors/windows/etc. they work fine. It is very annoying so any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated! I also tried the TEMP file clean to no avail. I haven't tried the new file though as stated above. I would hate to have to start a brand new office template to get it resolved, but if that is the painful correct solution, i guess i will. Commenting to follow this discussion.
Autodesk tiene que cambiar esto que sucede pues no deja ver otros elemente. Escribo aca por si en algun momento lo arreglan avisen. Saludos
We are having this same issue where the "Most Recently Used Types" (MRUT) list appears to be frozen but only with Components (including Detail Components). All system categories seem to be working as expected though. When I startup a project from no template (selecting none in the template selection) I get the same results where the MRUT list doesn't update. But, when I startup a project from the out of the box "Construction Template" the MRUT list updates with components. This leads me to believe this is an issue with Revit and not our company Templates but I supposed is more likely due to an issue with the creating a company template from scratch (this obviously shouldn't be the case) and therefore this is an issue with our template...what came first the chicken or the egg? Can anyone else verify the same results between the OOTB templates (none and construction in particular)?
Note that we've verified this in both Revit 2020.2.5 & 2022.0.1
Sam issue here wit Revit LT 2024 for components family. So when I am say building a bathroom and want the hand rail it's not in recently used components. Not great for my work flow... commenting to follow this thread. Thanks
The only families that show in the recent files on the Home Screen are ones that have been opened and saved (i.e. edit family).
If you are just loading the families into a project from a library they do not show in the recent files list.
