"length" parameter (Couter Top-Island) does not show up in the schedule

How do you get the "length" parameter (Couter Top-Island)  to show up in the schedule?  I've tried changing "Length" to "width" and deleting the other width parameter but nothing seems to work.

Any work-around or ideas?

If you create a custom parameter in a family you have to make it a Shared Parameter for it to show in a schedule.

I've been trying to create a new parameter as well but it looks like I would need to choose a shared parameter file.  How do find one and what am I selecting?

If your company doesn't have one, you can create one in Revit...

Here are the instructions: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-94EA2B8E-2C00-4D29-8D5A-C7C6664DE9CE

TIP: Don't create Shared Parameters with the exact same name as Revit in-built Parameters.  Keep in mind that Shared Parameters are identified by their GUID  -- not by their name.  Meaning that you may find two "Lengths" in your schedule's list of available parameter fields.  And, if you're using Shared Parameters from more than one Shared Parameter text files when you are creating your families, your Project schedule's list of available parameter fields could have many duplicate names.

FWIW.

To add to this, we use an underscore as a prefix to our share parameters so that there is not a conflict and the users know they are shared parameters. I’ve see other companies use all caps. The most important thing is to NOT use special characters (*,/,-). If you do these shared parameters will not be able to be used in formulas.

sorry guys... none of this makes any sense to me.  Perhaps I'm missing a step.

I have gone into the manage tab.

I have selected the Shared Parameters tool

- - There's nothing to select but 2 buttons "browse" and "create"

--Both take me to a Documents folder which contains various other folders.  Where do I go from here?

I've done this for both the project file and the family file and it's the same thing.  Which one am I supposed to edit?  project file or family file?

Also, I have gone into project parameter's tool and added a "length"  which does not really help because I would have to manually enter the length measurement and make sure it's correctly imputed every time I change the counter-top dimensions.

It doesn't matter where you create it from.  You can create one from within a Family or within a Project.

Manage Tab=>Shared Parameters=>Create.  Name it and save it. Now you can add to it when you create a Parameter. You will  have 2 options when you do: Family Parameter or Shared Parameter.  Pick Shared Parameter.

...you know, you might want to research this a bit before you dive into it.  I wouldn't be flying by the seat of your pants on this one.
