"An error has occurred while drawing the contents of this window" on multiple workstations (Windows 11)

Hi,

We’re encountering an issue across approximately 15 workstations in our office. Every time we open a model, regardless of whether it's stored in the cloud or on our local office network, the following error message appears:

"An error has occurred while drawing the contents of this window."

This issue began occurring about a week ago on all computers running Windows 11. Several users noticed that it started shortly after an automatic Windows update.

It’s important to note that this problem is happening across different projects and model complexities, so it doesn’t seem to be related to a specific file or project.

We’ve already opened a support ticket with Autodesk, and the issue has been escalated to the technical team. However, they currently do not have a solution.

we try :

  • deleted collaboration cache, pacache, ddgraph, cefcache
  • reset sectorsize
  • disable custom addins.
  • update to the last revit updates

As a temporary workaround, we rolled back the most recent Windows update, and that resolved the issue. However, this is not a long-term solution, as we will eventually need to apply OS updates.

At the moment, we haven't been able to find any other offices or users experiencing this same problem.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a known fix or a more permanent workaround?

Thanks in advance for your help!

We had the same issue after a Windows Update, across several workstations.  The fix so far was to uninstall all graphics drivers and reinstall a known stable 'Studio' version, also disable automatic driver updates for your graphics cards, if possible.

Thank you for your response. We tried the solution, but unfortunately, it didn’t work.

I think rolling back the update is a fix for the short term. Do you happen to know what update causes the problem?

Windows updates we identified are KB5043080 and KB5043178.

On our DELL computers, we were able to roll back to previous update versions, but on our HP machines, we were unable to do so.

KB5043178 is a preview update. Something I would never install on production machines. In this case, it basically kicks your machines to Windows 11 24H2. I.e. the latest & greatest - with all it's potential problems.

As the Patch Lady would say: Don't.

Autodesk support found that the issue was caused by a specific text box that was included in the Splash Screen Sheet of all our models. After deleting the text box, the models opened as expected. Interestingly, Autodesk's technical team is still experiencing the issue.
