"a serious error has occurred" when importing dwg file

Hi,

I regularly buy planning maps as dwg files from the same online company. I import these into Revit and usually have no issues at all.

However, a dwg I downloaded today will not import and I get a 'serious error' message - see screenshot.

I am able to import other dwg files into the same revit project.

The dwg file will open in autocad (online viewer - I don't have autocad) so does not appear to be corrupt.

Any thoughts...?

Thank you

When encountering issues importing a DWG file into Revit, mainly when other DWG files import without problems, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check File Size and Complexity:

Large or complex DWG files can sometimes cause issues. Try simplifying the file by removing unnecessary layers or details using a DWG editor or viewer.
Audit the DWG File:

If you can access AutoCAD or a similar tool, run an audit on the DWG file to check for and fix any errors.
Purge Unused Elements:

Use a DWG editor to purge the file's unused elements, layers, and blocks. This can help reduce file size and complexity.
Check for Unsupported Elements:

Ensure the DWG file does not contain unsupported elements or features that Revit might have trouble interpreting, such as certain hatches or custom objects.
Convert to a Different Format:

You can try converting the DWG file to a different format, such as DXF, and then importing it into Revit.
Import into a New Revit Project:

Create a new, blank Revit project and try importing the DWG file there. This can help determine whether the issue is with the specific Revit project or the DWG file.

Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately none of these methods helped. The dwg file is was very simple and not a large file to begin with so not much to reduce or purge.

I have previously tried a dxf file but this will not import either. I have tried importing the dwg into other revit projects. I have tried importing other dwg's into the same revit project. I've tried every variation I can think of.

Appears to be a an issue with this particular dwg file and revit. Very frustrating.
