"A" x "B" as a text formula in Revit parameter

Hi,

Can anyone help me with creating a parameter which display value "A", then letter "x" and value B. For example to get height and width in one cell.
I need to use that parameter in Sheet Lable (Title Block)

Example:

A = 100

B = 200

C = 100 x 200 (displayed like this, not 300)

Not possible. You can not concatenate parameter values. However, you can in Project Schedules.

Actually it is possible and I am pretty close to the solution. What I menage to do so far is:

  • Creata A and B as shared parameter (text) which I put into Sheet parameters. I can edit them by hand and put them into Title block family. Then I can put them into Label and display what I wanted but it is not over yet.1.jpg
  • What i need is to create Dimension(?) shared parameter which will be displayed and change if my Title block dimension would change. So I created such a parameters and dimension on my Title Block... Then I Label that dimensions by those parameters and put them into the Label like this:
    is width shared dimension parameter and B is hight shared parameter.
  • 2.jpg

What my problem is: Dimension parameters and B get values 841 and 594 into family (while i am editing title block) and when i load it into the project, on sheet value of parameter A & B is = 0.

I hope I described it clear and i feel like im close to the solution.

I'm not sure if i do it rigt, but I might have solution!

If my Dimension Shared parameters get 0 value on Sheet, I associate Global Parameters to them - as a dimension on my titleblock. The point is to create global parameter as reporting parameter to use it as extract value from a geometric condition but not change them by typing a value.

Now, when I change lengh of my Title block it automatically fill Size cell in table!

Little confused as to what your question was here to be honest. I would agree with @barthbradley that it's not possible... But if you believe it to be a solution, could you perhaps elaborate how you got a text to lenght parameter conversion?

Titleblock label? You don't nees a parameter, just add A and B parameters to the label and add x as the prefix of B.

@martijn_pater:

The OP is not concatenating parameter values, at least in the sense we were thinking. He is combining two labels together into one label. Pretty common, but I’m uncertain of what the OP thinks he has discovered or accomplished. Maybe he can share.

FWIW, here's the gymnastics:

1. In a Title Block Family, create a new label and put in 2 Shared Parameters of the “Length” type in it with a Suffix between them. For this example, “Tblk Width” and “Tblk Height” are the Shared Parameters.

2. In the Project, create 2 new Project Parameters using “Tblk Width” and “Tblk Height” Shared Parameters, and assign both to “Sheets” Category.

Tblk2.png

3. In the Project, create 2 new Global Parameter of the “Length” type. For this example, “Tblk Width” and “Tblk Height” are the names of the 2 new Global Parameters.

4. In the Project, create a new Sheet using the Title Block from step #1, and then pull Dimensions for Length and Width. Label these 2 Dimensions with the Global Parameters created in step #3.

5. Under the Properties of the Sheet with the Title Block, find the 2 Project Parameters created in step #2 and associate them to the 2 Global Parameters created in step #3.

6. Voila! The Title Label created in step #1 is now populated on the Sheet with the Global Parameter values.

Ha, that's a nice addition ^^ I think it needs a few more steps though, and then I understand what he meant here I think to get the titleblock dynamic because I guess that's the idea here. (Else) you could just create different types. Thanks for the summary @barthbradley .

7. Add another Length / Width instance parameters within the family to make the title block adjustable, as input values.

8. Under #3 make the Global parameters reporting parameters.
