Quantity survey help

I have a shelving family that i modelled, it will be used to store some artefacts, dividing the shelving into units of 20x20,i want to make a quantity survey to determine how much objects can be stored on the shelving, and how much area left to determine what objects can be stored, also how much of the units each artefact is taking up...
Any help please?

Parameters which u need to schedule and use in quantification must be shared parameters

If you created the cases/units using an array then that can be used to derive the total number of unit spaces available in the cabinet. Then the easiest option to work out the rest  would be for you to add 2x integer parameters. One for the units placed and the second for how many spaces the placed unit takes

in the schedule you would then add a field which is a calculated value and use the above parameters to calculate

I'm sorry i think i didn't explain what i meant in a clear way.

haya_mamdouh12_1-1735647881868.png

these green lines are used to hypothetically divide my shelving storage system to 20x20 cm squared shaped units so that i can identify how much units each artefact can take, so that i can calculate how much is stored in each shelf and how much area is left to store others

is there an easier way to determine that without the imaginary lines?

if you mean to say that you would wish Recit to calculate automatically the number of artifacts placed on that shelf, the answer would be no it cannot

With or with lines you would need some sort of formula or calculated value to do the plus and minus. You could also nesting the artifacts; then other options could be available but not without any sort of calculations

Do u know calculations required that could help me determine how much area each artefact takes and how much area left on the shelving to store the artefacts

You can calculate it in the shelf family.  In the family, assuming you have Length and Width parameters for the shelf already:

Add a integer shared parameter and type in this formula: (Length * Width) / (20cm * 20cm).  This shared parameter can be added to the project schedule and you can total the quantity.

This can allow me to calculate how much units each artefact takes and how much units left?/

when i'm writing the formula it gives me inconsistent units

The parameter u added is in m…ie: length. It should be an integer (ie: unitless). When you create it, select from the drop down menu what type of parameter it is.

There are many ways to do this but it depends on how you are modeling the family and its components. For instance, how should the shelving supposed to know which types of artifacts you are placing?

  • Will you nest the artifacts into the shelving unit and the family calculates based on the Artifact family:type selected by the user
  • or will the user simply enter the numbers manually? Ex: shelve 1: 2*(20*20) + 1*(20*40) and subsequently for each shelve then all get calculated in a total parameter.
  • will the length of the shelve be variable? Or a standard size say 1m

Why don’t you attach the family of the shelving and artifacts so one may have a look at what you have modeled and give you the right advise accordingly. It would be much easier than the trial and error

Here's the revit project containing some artefacts placed on the shelving family,
The shelf is 1.8 m length and 0.8m in depth, vertical spacing between each shelf is 1.2, i want to know how much units each artefact takes from length, height and depth, i don't know the easiest way to calculate it so by looking at the file please advise me
