PSA: you can use "Paint" tool on structural beams

You can't use Paint on structural elements such as beams. Right? Place it in a project, try it out, doesn't work.

I "know" this since always, I think I even read it here now and then when someone asks about it.

But once you join the beam to something else, or drive a column through a beam (it's joined to the column) you can use Paint on it.

Furthermore, you can continue to paint the beam even if you delete the joined wall or column! You can even remove all the paint, and add another one, as if it's marked "can be painted" once it was joined to something.

Split face doesn't work.

Since Paint is unreliable and can cause weird stuff happening to material takeoff, I'm not sure I'd use this on anything important, but there it is.

Don't know if this is a "bug", or I missed the memo when it was added.

Thanks for the heads up, the way to achieve painting beams would make me not do it as a matter of purpose because it doesn’t sounds normal in process and as you rightly state “Strange Maternal Schedules”
