Project Browser scheme changing in workshared setting

something strange is afoot with my project browser - the organization scheme changes every so often when I open a worshared project. That is to say, the scheme is not the way it was when I closed the file. Thus far, it typically changes to 'not on sheets' and I usually have it set to 'all'

I would suspect an issue on my end, but it is also happening for other users.

I thought this was an individual setting, not subject to control by others - is that not the case?

Aaaahh - the immortal question - to change or not to change.

You can change the project browser organization whenever you want. Of course, that won't make you very popular with your team mates. And I am sure that the browser organization would have been set up in compliance with an organization wide standard - so your CAD manager may not be happy with you either.

Bottom line - standards are set up so that multiple team members can work on the same project with minimum issues. So the browser organization should NOT be changed from user to user.

Thanks for that explanation.

Sounds like I've waded into troubled waters here, but I don't see why customizing how my project browser is sorted should affect any other user. It doesn't actually change, alter, modify, or remove any content in the project, it just changes how the display is organized for me, correct?

Absolutely. It doesn't change anything. But once you've sync'ed, the next user will see your browser organization, which may not be what they want / need / should see. Creates confusion. A standard browser organization, which would have been created as a part of your project template, means that everyone sees and works with the same things in the same manner, reduces the chances of misinterpretation.

Thanks again for explaining that to me.

I have to say, I don't care for it at all, but I understand it now.

I agree with you - Project Browser settings should be a user setting not a model setting. Even better, give managers the option.

I understand the rationale given above, but that is one interpretation of one workflow that works for some users;  not something that is universal and should be mandated to everyone. Large teams on large/complicated models would definitely improve their workflow if this flexibility was returned to individual users.

Its clearly possible - Default 3d views ("House" views) remember "their" user for example, its not one view that changes every time someone synchs.
