Project Base Point, Survey Point and relationship to Global Position Coordinates

I am at the start of going into Creating Project Site practice and I have the following questions:

  1. Do location coordinates; Latitude / Longitude that were set by : Manage tab >> Project Location panel >> Location >> Location D. Box (for example: Lat. = 24.949064° , Lon. = 55.108884°) represent a global positioning for the Project Base Point?
  2. How to link Project Base Point / Survey Point to Global Geographic Coordinates; Latitude / Longitude (for example: Lat. = 24.949064° , Lon. = 55.108884°)?
  3. When selecting any of Project Base Point / Survey Point, it appears with E & N as 0.0. What are the units? Are they in degrees or millimeters distance?
  4. How can we move Survey Point without moving Project Base Point?
  5. Any tutorial resources about the above mentioned issues that can explain more regarding the best practice to set and work with project coordinates?

I hope that this will be a space for this basic issue & thanks in advance for all.

  2. How to link Project Base Point / Survey Point to Global Geographic Coordinates; Latitude / Longitude (for example: Lat. = 24.949064° , Lon. = 55.108884°)? You need to either enter it manually straight into the Project base point & Survey point or go through the standard tool.
  3. When selecting any of Project Base Point / Survey Point, it appears with E & N as 0.0. What are the units? Are they in degrees or millimeters distance? Those are units of distance ... miles/meters/mm...depend on the set default unit for that model/project...if u have Long/Lat degree u will need to covert...
  4. How can we move Survey Point without moving Project Base Point? Unclip it > move > reclip (ps: however; if u are relocating Project Base Point manually and uncliped, do not move it more than 9 miles max from its start up location)
  5. Any tutorial resources about the above mentioned issues that can explain more regarding the best practice to set and work with project coordinates? I will refrain from answering to this part because for sure I will end up arguing with someone or a couple...all I can say is that there are lots of tutorials out there but most of it is crap (even some of what's in Autodesk university)

I hope that this will be a space for this basic issue & thanks in advance for all.

Thanks for the reply.

I believe that I have to go little deeper through the subject of linking / converting local coordinates to global coordinates.

Best regards,

Hi Justin,

following your thread here and wondered if you would send me your guide Coordinates and Project and Survey Base Points if you still think its relevant. I have had some experience in this but have been away from the subject for some time and always start getting mixed up with the subject when trying to refresh. I am based in the UK and use a millimetres template normally. Every so often I have a project that requires O/S coordinates and then start getting flummoxed as to the best way to proceed. Any guidance from your experience would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Darryl
