Problem with Revit wanting to place the same model group after picking something different from the list

I'm having an odd problem with the model groups.  I started using model groups recently, and have a problem now when I go to place an existing model group, it wants to place the same group.  My default group has become two chairs and a table.  Even though I have multiple groups shown in the list and can pick other ones, Revit defaults back to the two chairs.  The only way I can get around it is to place the chairs group and then change that once selected.  This doesn't seem right.  Thanks, Matt

Hi,

Do the tables and chairs operate based on instance parameters? If they do, you can ungroup the group, make the necessary changes, and then regroup them. These settings are then the default for your group.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. I'm not sure how to follow
through on the reply.

This is the exact problem.

1) I created this chair group like any other, but used models from the web
for the chair and tables.
2) I go to place a new group, and the chair and table group shows up as
the default. Like other component placements, a list of alternate
components appears in the pulldown but when I pick something else, it just
reverts back to the chair group.
3) The only way to place a different group is to place this chair group
first, complete the placement, and then click on it again. At this point,
I can pick something else from the list and the chair group will change to
what I want.

Does that sound like the difference between an instance and a type
parameter?

I'm attaching the chair group too.

Thanks, Matt

Hmm,

Can you attach a part of your project in the attachment for investigation? So I can replicate your issue.

Let me know if you want the actual project.  That is clocking in at over 110 MB so it may take some effort to trim that down.  Thanks, Matt

Looks like this problem? "I suppose it must be a bug."

Yep. That's exactly what it's doing. I went back to the actual post in
your system and uploaded the problem group. The chairs have a 3D
appearance but they may just be lines too.

Thanks for the effort you put into this. I can always place groups and
change them later on, and this looked like a "feature". If AD is already
aware of it, then I don't expect anything more.

Matt
