Problem seeing all windows on Ground Floor Plan (View range problem ??)

Good morning,

I've just started to create my own window family and I'm having a problem seeing the complete window symbol in plan view.

  • I have created (6) windows and only can see the last three windows in plan view.
  • I have tried different numbers for the view range on the ground floor plan, but still can't get the first 3 windows to show in plan.
  • I want to have the view range at 5'-6" from the floor, that should show all the windows in plan.
  • The window labels are the following (eg. 24.24-1 - 24" wide x 24" height)
  • The top of window is at 7'-0" (typ.)

What am I doing wrong ??

Any assistance is appreciated ...

Doug J.

Hey Doug,

Would you be able to upload the window you are using so that I could see if I can figure it out for you?

If I could recreate your conditions and or make the changes I might be able to help.

If I have to venture a guess, I'd say it has something to do with the family's "Show only if cut" Visibility Setting. Posting the family would definitely help troubleshoot.

Also just shooting from the hip here but your "Bottom" is above 0'-0". The third line down in your view range. I know I have had the same issues with windows not showing because the bottom was above 2'-0". Even though we set a cut level, we sometimes are not seeing the family geometry but line work set to show when cut. I did a test and the windows I tested the geometry and the line work are both set to "Show when cut" but if I set the bottom above 2'0" the windows do not show. For giggles, set the bottom, (third line down) to 0'0" and see if all the windows show. Again reaching without having the window family.

Hi folks,

Attached is the window family I created.

I've been busy with other things and haven't tried any of your responses, but appreciate the assistance.

I've got a fairly light schedule today, so I will probably work on this to see what I can figure out.

Thanks again,

Doug J.

Hey Doug,

From what I can see you have your window masses set to show when cut and your line work set to show when cut. The issue is the window mass will not show after a few feet. So what I did was set your window massing to NOT show when cut and used line work set TO show when cut and it works fine. Attached is the new window so you can see what I did. Let me know if this works for ya.

I only have 2015 installed here so can't open your family but check the view range in the family itself.

Select the Ref. Level view and then in your properties window hit the drop down that says 'Family Windows' and select 'Floor Plan: Ref. Level'.  You will then be able to select the View Range - set the cut plane lower and see it solves your problem.

HTH

Thanks,

rburchett - Can you tell / show me where these settings are located ??  I'd like to know for the future when I make more window families.

Keith - That worked, thanks !!!

I needed to change the "Cut Plane Offset" to 5'-6" in the family file, save it, then load it in the project file.  So far so good;  I'm going to try it with some other window families to see if they all work.  If not, "Terminator voice on ... I'll be back !!! ... LOL"

Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.

Doug
