Problem: Revit freezes when I click "edit type"

I successfully installed Revit 2016, but for some reason when I attempt to modify a wall (or add doors and windows) everything is greyed out/frozen until I press escape. I tried uninstalling it and installing it with/without the virtual agent, tried to download 2015, and tried 2015 on my less powerful desktop. It is running windows 10, and it works on it as far as I know. Every other Autodesk product works on my laptop, and my specs seem to check out 100%. I need it for an important, time sensitive project. Is it a technical glitch? Or am I forgetting to do something on the program? Thanks!

Hardware specs:
Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz (Turbo up to 3.6GHz)
Nvidia GTX960M 2G GDDR5; 16 GB DDR3
512 GB Solid-State Drive
15.6-inch 4K UHD (38402160) Screen
Windows 10

Did you get the model from someone else?

You might want to make sure all of your service packs are installed. http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/downloads

If you got the model from someone else, they may be using a different version of Revit (service pack level)

No, I just added a wall as the start of a project and tried to edit it, completely new.

I am installing the service packs now, hopefully they work. Thanks for pointing that out!

The service packs didn't help, it still freezes.

What are you doing when you say Edit the wall?

Adding doors, windows, openings, or clicking "Edit Type" under properties, it then freezes until I press escape, at which point it unfreezes. The "Edit Type" menu doesn't even pop up.

Can you post a screen shot?  Please use the Snipping tool so you can save as a png..

Usually you have to click ESC to get out of a command, or click Modify.  But it shouldn't be grayed out at all if it was a new project.

Here it is before I click it (top) and after (bottom). Everything in every ribbon and view is locked, as well as everything along the side; no error messages.RT-1AB.PNGRT-1BA.PNG

Can you go to your options and then select Graphics....is there a warning there?

snip...(you already posted comp specs)

Make sure your Video card drivers are up to date, if you still have issues, roll back your drivers to an earlier version.

Also, are you using Display Zoom since you got a pretty high resolution system?   Make sure it is at 100%.

I deselected the Hardware Acceleration after snipping it, and I have tried Revit with the 960M and an Intergrated Drive, no effect. I have also upgraded my driver to no effect, as well as the display zoom.

Wow....The only other option I can think of is maybe turning down the actual screen resolution....perhaps the 4k is too much.  I have heard of some people having issues with 4K screens, but the ones that don't have issues have 4K external monitors.

Unfortunately it had no effect, thank you for your help though!

If anyone else has this problem, please post below. Especially if you solved it, it would be a big help to know if it is a glitch with Revit 2016.

While Revit may be reporting that it sees your GTX card, I wonder if Windows is switching to the integrated video card?

You might try disabling the non-nvidia card in the device manager, reboot and try running Revit again.

On PC's it's normal to disable the mobo video card in the BIOS since there is no physical connection to the monitors, this is not the same for Laptops, since the Integrated and Discrete video cards share the same port.

Because you should be flying with those system specs...  Do any other programs seem to have issues too?

Never heard that before, thanks. I tried disabling the integrated card and then the Nvidia card, it didn't work either time.

And no, everything else runs absolutely perfectly. Even Revit doesn't lag itself, I only have problems with "edit type" for some reason.

Okay, I particularly figured it out. The "Type Properties" window (and any other pop up window) is not visible. I'm not sure if it is off the screen somewhere or something else, is there a way to make it snap to the center of the screen?

Solved! I bumped the "ALT" key on accident and it just popped up, it turns out with 4k screens the window will appear off screen, so the ALT button brings it back.
