Hi Angela,
I have had exactly the same issue using microsoft print to Pdf printer.
It is the interface between the Revit and the printer that is at fault.
Solutions are: uninstall/reinstall your printer or use another printer...
Try anyway to get the latest driver for your printer and reintal it...
I cannot see any other soltion that that,
It worked for us.
Cheers,
François

Thanks all lot for your collaboration, I solved the problem by setting the default printer adobe pdf bye bye
We solved the issue by un-installing the windows 10 default drivers for our default printer...used the OEM drivers. all buttons are working just fine.
I'm having this issue in Revit 2018 with ALL of my printers. (pdf printers, XPS Document Writer, HP paper printers, Epson Paper printers....) I've only had Revit 2 months and this is the first time I've tried to print. And I need this printed ASAP.....
You don't actually have to mess with drivers or installing/uninstalling your printers to hotfix this issue.
As some have mentioned, this error exists somewhere between the Revit print dialogue and the selected printer. When the error arises, you simply have to change your selection to a working printer and then hit "ok". The print will be succesful (albeit probably with the wrong settings) afterwhich the locked buttons will work once again.
It can be incredibly annoying if the "wrong settings" consists of a multi-file .pdf print, in which case every single file will have to manually be "cancelled" in the PDF printer before being able to change the settings.
The error has been there for years by the way - hopefully they'll figure it out at some point 🙂
I'm glad it solved your issue. I spent countless hours before figuring out this relatively simple fix 🙂
If you don't mind, please feel free to "accept as solution", so that others can save their frustration too 😉
