Printing PDFs without locking Revit?

Is there a way to start batch printing a lot of PDFs without blocking Revit and printing in the background [no, starting another instance of Revit isn't an option]?

You can´t really press Print and then continue with something else. Revit needs to load through the views beeing printed. But you can make the process quicker by changing the properties in your pdf-printer. If you for example use Adobe Pdf-printer there is an option in the default settings to turn off "view pdf result" and to change the "prompt for location" to a designated folder. This will increase the speed of the process and you can batch print multiple views without the need to press "Enter" with every pdf and click down the result.

Type x and y with every move in AutoCad and no one bats an eye...but use coordinates in Revit and everybody loses their mind.

Why is starting another instance of Revit not an option?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Due to RAM limitations - opening second model was simply overloading computer's capacity. Luckily it was expanded today 🙂

I would have expected that same limitation to interfere with continuing to work while printing in the same session anyway.

Do you have another computer you can use to batch print? This is how I do it to batch print on another computer while I am working. Also I would remote into the computer to check and see if the batch printing is done.

Creating PDF is more of a feature of PDF writer.. different software gives different options and results..

Cute Pdf software does allow you to continue working while it creates PDF in the background..

try that..

Best luck.

@RobDraw - I would expect that maybe it would use significantly less RAM as it might "export" information needed to print spearately and proceed to print. But that's only my guess.

@Corsten.Au - Thanks, will try that.

@syman2000 - Yes, that's the way I currently use while doing some big prints (operation I talk about takes 1,5h and I need to run it every other day, usually leaving computer on for the evening, so improving printing could be beneficial to me).

Revit does not support multitasking in the API, therefore I cannot see that being possible. Our suggestion is that one prints from Revit using the app that does the job faster. Have you tried Docuflow? It is much faster then Bluebeam for instance.
