Printing from Revit for Large Multifamily Project

Our office does not have much experience with large multifamily projects where multiple buildings are used. Currently we have one project under our belt where we've successfully modeled and coordinated a project with 2 buildings on a very complicated site.

We Linked into the building models:

  • Linked units
  • Linked prefab garages
  • Linked details model (intelligent details by Brian Mackey)

Then we linked into the site model:

  • 2 Buildings
    • These share unit links, each one has its own prefab garage link, and details model only linked into the main building
  • Bridge model (connected between buildings)

We decided to print from each building and stitch the 2 prints together in Bluebeam into one set. To do this we:

  • Schedule the units through area plans and link revit link file name and name of link in model
  • Document our units within the unit link and then link those views into the building to create the unit sheets
  • Scheduled windows and doors in the main building by linking the other building into the main

So main building printed:

  • All code sheets
  • Life safety / addressing specific to this building
  • All building sheets specific to this building
  • Most unit sheets
  • Schedules and details

Secondary building printed:

  • Life safety / addressing specific to this building
  • All building sheets specific to this building
  • Unit sheets specific to this building

We have another project, smaller buildings but there are 5 of them. We want to make sure we use the best method to print this new project because stitching this set together will be a bit more tedious. Is there a way be able to print everything all at once and in order, i.e. printing from the site model?

Printing from the site model I see a few problems:

  • We document our units in the unit links because we don't want to dimension to the units in the building model, we had problems with dimensions being dumped. If we use this method for the site we'll be linking ALL building views in our sets. Sounds excessive.
  • On top of the last bullet, to link unit views to sheets, we need a linked view in building, then link building view in site model?
  • When needing to edit sheets need to open building model, sync, then reload in site. That time really builds up.
  • Can't schedule our units directly in the site model, nested links have the same name as the building link in the site model

These are some of the issues that occurred to me right off the top of my head, I'm sure there are some others. Does anyone else have a better method or ideas to streamline what we are already currently doing?
