Previous employee locked on file

Hello all,

When my team opens up their newly upgrade Revit 2021 file, a window pops up stating that we need to request permission from one of our prior employees. If we cancel, than we can access the file and haven't found anything yet that is actually locked. Since it's a BIM 360 file, I can't do the trick where I change my screenname and open the file to relinquish control. Also, when I go to manage my cloud models, their name is not even in the list to force relinquish. Any thoughts on how I can remove them from the file, and get rid of this message?

  • open Revit, not the file, just Revit...
  • go to File > Options and edit the Username
  • change the user name to the same as the former user
  • Pick OK.
  • then open the file in question.

Revit will open thinking it is that user and you can Relinquish All Mine or Sync to Central.

Once done, close the file and reopen Revit and set the user back to what it was.

@hmunsell

That only works if it's not a BIM 360 project as it is requiring me to log on to access the file. Any other ideas?

sorry, didn't catch that part :-).

You may need to remove and unload the file from from the BIM360 project, correct it, and then reassociate it to the project.

No worries :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:

Well I will see if I'm able to do that then. Thanks!

I've never had to do that before, so let me know if it works.

Can you download the 360 file. Detach it resave it and then reupload to 360 as new file?

I've done this many times. It works. If the file is linked to others, they will need to reloaded from.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
