Prevent Walls from Joining / Interfering

I am modeling a 12-gon structure. The two main components I am talking about are the walls and the structural Columns/beams (See the pictures below.)

I am modeling the structural columns/beams as walls (Edit Profile). The problem I am having is that when I am modeling the regular walls of the house, I keep getting "can't keep elements joined" and then "cannot create extrusion". This forces me to delete the structural column/wall. It's becoming an issue.

Basically I just want the structural columns/beams which I am modeling as walls to not interfere or join with any other walls. The disallow join feature is not working.

Any thoughts?

Besides selecting disallow join, is there any other settings you suggest? I have the disallow option selected and I am still getting this join issue.

Besides disallowing join, unjoining all and use beams and columns instead of system wall family with edited profile...no I cannot think of any other way to fix that

I think what was happening is that after the profile was edited the wall had new areas it could join. For some reason, these new areas would join to nearby walls.

To fix this I selected the wall and looked for any icons that allowed for a disallow join option. For reference, the image below shows this option, with the difference that it is "join" and not "disjoin". Ensure all icons look like the image below:

So you place your walls with "allow join" then you go "disallow" it manually... brilliant solution! who needs to disallow that before placing elements!

PS: if you are planning to stay in  business, you should seriously consider not billing more than 50% of your working hours 🙂

Incorrect. "Disallow" join was selected to start with.
