There is a notch in the column where two panels meet with the column, the panels will be pocketed inside the column; the column and panels will be aligned on the exterior.
I know the structure engineer will develop the above details. But how can I model it and the elevation will look right?
Is it possible to create a column family, whenever it meets the wall, it will generate a pocket? What is the best way to model a building with this type of connection?

Actually, you can create Parts from Wall, Divide and Notch via Division Profile.
The notch is not all through the column, only where the wall panel meets with column. Do you have any suggestion on modeling this detail?
You could create the wall as a curtain wall using the same basic wall type for panels. Add grid lines at the joints to split the walls. Then join the wall panels with columns to notch the columns.
How can I create curtain wall with basic wall type? Curtain Wall is system family, how to change glass to concrete? Is it possible to set the grid as void?

Edit the curtain wall type and change the default panel type assignment to a basic wall type.
So, that horizontal member is a Wall and you want it to cut a notch in the Column? If so, why can't you join the Wall to the Column to create the notch?
I use "join geometry", the wall panels don't cut notch in column so to only show wall material on the exterior finish, we still see the column material on the surface.

Share you file here because I can cut the column without issue. Or see the 2022 file I posted.
1. The reason to use curtain wall instead of regular wall is to create joints through curtain wall grids?
2. I realized the reason the wall and column didn't join is because I already set the column not join to wall automatically. So I like the approach, but the only concern is the graphics in plan - I need to make column and wall separated. The needs conflict - in plan I don't want the wall and column to join; but for elevation, I need them to join so the wall can cut the column a notch and show correctly.
What makes the column keep the graphics of solid hatch even after joining the wall panel in plan?
Can you share your file here? Also, with your approach, is there way to keep column's solid fill so it doesn't merge with wall in plan?
How are you able to insert a detail family into a structure column family? I am trying to insert one into the architectural column, it doesn't allow.
