Point cloud strange bahaviour.

In revit 2021, when I insert point colud (in RCP) by shared cooridnates, sometimes it is located correclty but sometimes it is moved, by for example 20 cm in x and y. On day it's ok and It sits perfect, but another day it is moved when I load it. Any ideas for such a behaviour ? Of course the base point is located far from  0,0,0, so I suppose that this is  the main problem, but why its so random?

If it is beyond the permissible 10 miles / 16km radius in Revit ...yes you might observe such unpredictable odd behaviors. Can also be due to several other reasons

  1. Large coordinates of the point cloud might also get truncated down to 6 decimals.
  2. It might also be due to mismatch in scaling PC and Revit...best would be to match the right import scale rather than counting on automatic scaling factors

The question is though, how did you establish the shared coordinates between the Point Cloud and the Revit model the first place?

If it is okay one day and not okay another day, I doubt the distance from 0,0,0 has anything to do with it.

If you are inserting the Point Cloud by Shared Coordinates, the origin of the PC in landing on the Survey Point.  It could be that you accidently moved the Survey Point. That would explain why the PC lands differently than before. Do you have multiple Site Locations defined in your Project?  Maybe the "Current" Site is different than the one used before.
