Point Cloud Performance when linked into Revit.

Hi There, I am making contact because I cannot seem to find a definite answer to the problems I am having when using point cloud files inserted into a Revit model. Any time I place a point cloud in a file (via point cloud link) revit freezes every second or two and has a hard time keeping up. Regardless of the size of the point cloud, or the revit file.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 graphics card, i7-8700k 6-core 6-thread 3.7GHz (4.7GHz turbo) processor, 16GB RAM, and over 40 GB free on my local storage (Not an SSD).

I have tried putting both RVT and Point Cloud files on my local drive, and I have tried putting them both on our office network SSD with no effect on performance.

Is there any way to determine what the bottleneck in my system/hardware may be?

Some forums I read say that upgrading to an SSD local disk will solve the problem, others say a better processor will solve the problem. I have not came across any definite answers.

Many Thanks.

"Point clouds in a project can impact performance. A Solid State Drive (SSD) will significantly improve view performance in these cases." From this link...https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/EN... Pretty straightforward. I've always used SSDs with point clouds.

Maybe try inserting your Point Cloud into another Revit Project, and then Linking that Project into the Host.
